The Model “MG-1” Retrievable Casing Packer is a compact, economical set-down packer that can be used by itself for production applications or, with a companion unloader and hold-down, It can be used for well stimulation, testing and other pressuring operations and then left in the well as a production packer.
 
FEATURES:
 
  1. SHORT AND COMPACT---Even shorter and more compact than its predecessor, the Model “MG-1” Retrievable Casing Packer offers true ease of storage, shipping and handling.
  2. PERMITS PASSAGE OF RECORDING INSTRUMENTS---The bore through the Model “MG-1” Packer is full-opening for the size tubing on which it is designed to be run. Pressure bombs or temperature recording devices can be run through and below the tool if desired.
  3. LOW COST---Economical to buy and economical to maintain. The Model “MG-1” Retrievable Casing Packer offers long and dependable service with minimum care and maintenance.
  4. ALTERNATE PACKING ELEMENT SYSTEM---For temperatures up to 250, the standard 80 hard packing element can be used with the Model “MG-1” Packer; for applications above this temperature, the packer is furnished with a 90 hard packing element.
  5. SIMPLE CONSTRUCTION---As is evident in the drawing on Page 2, the Model “MG-1” Packer is constructed of a minimum number of working parts. The dependable rocker-type slips and synthetic rubber packing element are the same types used on other highly successful Baker equipment.
  6. EASE OF OPERATION---A simple and reliable J-Slot mechanism, actuated from the surface, makes the Model “MG-1” Retrievable Casing Packer very easy to set and release.
  7. ALTERNATE BODY WITH LARGER I.D.---An Alternate Body is available, with an I.D. of 1.978”, in size 43 only. The Alternate Body is used in areas where a pump is to be run below the packer or where it is desired to swab below the tool.
Operating Instructions
OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS:
The packer is run to a position about one foot below the desired setting depth, then picked up to the setting point. The tubing is rotated to the right 1/4 turn at the tool, and set-down weight (show below) is applied to set and pack off the tool. To release is to be moved down-hole and reset, the tubing is rotated to the left 1/4 turn at the tool.

EMERGENCY RELEASE
The Model MG-1 Packer also features a safety joint that permits removal of the tubing string if it should become necessary to do so. To remove the tubing string from the packer, rotate the tubing string (under slight tension) at least seven turns to the right. The left-hand thread that connects the Top Sub to the Body will unscrew, permitting the removal of the tubing string and the Top Sub from the well.
