The SMA-BP plug is a retrievable plug with bi-directional slip that can be set in tension, compression or neutral conditions and can withstand pressure differences from above and below. The large by-pass hole design inside the plug reduces the swab effect during lowering and recovery, and automatically closes when the tool is set. When the bridge plug is unsealed, the bypass hole is first opened to balance the upper end slip release. A slip release device on the SMA-BP removable bridge plug reduces drag when recovering tools. It is first released by a non-directional slip, making it easier to recover the other slips.
